Scribbles & Words Redesign
For those of you that have been around since the birth of Scribbles & Words, I realize the constant shedding of clothes seems like watching a child find it’s way in the world. For some of you, this is exciting — change gets you all riled up. For others, it’s like dating teenagers when you’re in your late twenties — tired and played-out — you just want a solid, well-established personality to vibe with.
Well, the good news is, Scribbles & Words will always be in a drift of change. The better news is, it has also hit its stride in terms of personality — the unstable, red hair and lip-ring stage has passed — now it’s all about collared shirts and frequent-flyer miles. You won’t have to worry about another lifestyle change until the day Scribbles & Words dawns an Italian suit and drives a Maserati GT into the sunset — it’ll be a while.
New Theme
The underlying theme is Chris Pearson’s new masterpiece: Thesis from DIY Themes. It is by far the best theme I have ever had the pleasure of customizing.
Tighter Focus
The first website I ever created was hideous. It was a blog of sorts and after a few months the dismal aesthetics persuaded me to call it quits. This process repeated itself more than I want to admit. I created blogs, websites, businesses…then I trashed them — for several years. That’s what we young people do — we play with the gas pedal a bit — until our legs are long enough to push it full throttle. Last year I decided enough was enough and I installed WordPress on one of the lonely domains rotting in my GoDaddy account. ScribblesandWords.com was that domain.
Originally, when I bought the domain, the idea was to blog about drawing and writing, hence scribbles and words — well, I got carried away. I tried to fit two or three blogs into one and the fat bastard started to have heart problems.
Long story short, I chopped off the excess weight and went back to my original idea. When time permits, I may launch another blog dedicated to entrepreneurship/innovation/internet marketing/advertising, but for now, Scribbles & Words simply cannot bear the weight any longer.
From this point forward: Scribbles & Words — Design better. Write better.

Jay. That little guy in the logo with the cane rocks. He looks masterfully elvish, wise, and omniscient with a hint of mystery. I love that logo.
James Chartrand - Men with Pens’s last blog post..Keeping Up When Your Blog Takes Off
You know, that was just an after thought. I needed something to break up the text a little so I modeled it after the “put your ad here” banner I designed. I love it too — funny how that happens. My best work is always accidental.
@James From that description it makes me wonder if that little guy in the logo is Jay
@Jay Great new revision. The nice part is everytime you’ve re-designed its gotten better and it’s always been interesting. Progress is wonderful
OOOooOOOoOOoO!!! redesign so good! nice work!
Sasha Fornari’s last blog post..Projects In The Works!
Redesign yet again? Have you thought about making your previous themes available for download, or sale even? They were pretty darn good.
Oh, and I like the non-cluttered look. Maybe you can advise James to redesign Men With Pens for a cleaner look?
Rudy’s last blog post..Tesla Roadster - THE reason to take out a second mortgage
@JustMe - The little man is called a Scribe. Their kind has been out of work for so long that I decided to adopt them all and give them a new purpose. They work for me now. You can think of me as Wonka and the Scribes as Oompa-Loompas.
@Sasha - Thanks. Good luck with On Center Mag.
@ Rudy - *thinks nasty thoughts*
@ Jay - DAMN! Did you bribe them? Is that why they all left me? Ungrateful wee sods. GIVE THEM BACK!

Me likey! S&W v16.43 is looking tasty. As an additional bonus, I can put the slightly wider look down on my list of reasons to buy a 30 inch monitor. What’s not to like?
Nick Cernis’s last blog post..Moleskine Notebooks: The Ultimate Guide (and how to rank your addiction)
Liking the new design.

@Rudy - One of these days I will design my own WordPress themes and put them out there, but for now, I’m just a master customizer.
@James - I’m available for clean design work, and I have a whole boatload of little scribes to do the job…them being so familiar with their old stomping grounds, it should be a snap.
@Nick - Thanks todoodlist…I’m really diggin’ HeadersUp and Goburo, really solid stuff. You should be able to get that 30 inch in no time.
@Andrew - Thanks Andrew, means alot coming from a designer.
I have long been a fan of Chris Pierson and, like you, implemented this new theme last week. I love it!
Hopeful Spirit’s last blog post..Take Me As I Am
Ain’t it great!
I’m working on a blog right now that will hopefully show how versatile the theme can really be.
I really dig Chris Pearson’s themes too. What a nice redesign, although I will miss your old one with its large, nautical-looking header. But the scribbly style fits your blog, too.
JustChris’s last blog post..A preview of GameLib - a plugin for organizing video games
I’ll miss it too. I should start a page with all the headers I’ve gone through…
Wow - I really like this design. Great typography and layout! Nice job.
Thanks Christian, although Mr. Pearsonified gets that credit.
